The Common Blue Butterfly ( polyomattus Icarus ), with a wingspan of up to 35mms frequents the Ballincollig Regional Park, Co. Cork, throughout the months of May - October. On sunny days they can be found feeding together in small colonies on their favourite food, the native wildflower; Bird\'s Foot Trefoil,\' a beautiful yellow flower that resembles a buttercup from a distance. These native wildflowers flourish in abundance throughout the summer at the park. This photograph is a very rare if not an unique view into the intimate life-cycle of these beautiful butterflies and was captured recently by local photographer, Philip G. O Connor. |
